Musicians who work with Rick Rubin tend to describe the producer as some kind of spiritual guru — a bearded sage capable of inspiring classic albums.
Corey Taylor isn’t convinced. Responding to a fan’s question during a recent ‘Evening with Corey Taylor’ acoustic performance, the Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman called Rubin “overrated” and “overpaid” and vowed never to work with him again.
“Let me give you the f—ing truth of it,” Taylor said, thinking back to the sessions for Slipknot’s 2004 album ‘Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses). “Rick Rubin showed up for 45 minutes a week. Yeah. Rick Rubin would then, during that 45 minutes, lay on a couch, have a mic brought in next to his face so he wouldn’t have to f—ing move.”
